Screen darkening is one of the most common and annoying issues with modern LED and LCD TVs. One moment you’re watching your favorite movie, and then a part—or the entire screen—starts getting darker. If you landed on this page, you’re probably experiencing this exact problem. At Aksis Service – Varna we have years of experience diagnosing and repairing such faults. Here we explain why darkening occurs, what the symptoms mean, what you should avoid doing, and when it’s worth calling a technician.
Darkening may appear in several ways:
These symptoms often cause panic and a quick decision to buy a new TV. However, in more than 70% of cases, the issue is fully repairable and much cheaper than purchasing a new device.
Here are the most common faults leading to darkening:
The LED backlight makes the picture visible. When LED strips fail or burn out, the picture remains but becomes very dim. LEDs often fail from overheating or poor-quality components.
This board controls the power delivered to the LED strips. When damaged, it can cause partial or complete loss of backlight.
The T-CON (timing control) board synchronizes the signal going to the display. When defective, it may cause darkening, lines, or a complete loss of picture.
The processor or controllers may fail to deliver proper video signal, resulting in a dim or dark picture.
Moisture, power surges, overheating, or accumulated dust can also damage the backlight or electronics.
Our diagnostic process includes:
Most repairs take between 1 and 3 business days.
Costs depend on model, size, and part availability. You receive a clear offer before repair — no surprises.
In most cases, repair is absolutely worth it. LED strips often have intentionally short lifespans. Replacing them with quality components can extend the TV’s life by another 3–5 years.
